I don't remember seeing it tell you how to hook on the tutorial. Also, try adjusting the sensitivity settings of your Wiimote and make sure that the sensor bar is in a good spot. Pay closer attention to the tutorial it tells you how to move the Wiimote so that it will be received by the game. You might be swinging incorrectly or possibly too fast or too slow. Your moving in a manner that isn't recognized by the Wiimote.
